HL7 Head Lice Treatment Shampoo

WHAT IS HL 7 SHAMPOO?

• HL 7 Shampoo is a clinically proven head lice treatment shampoo (Aust R) which is easy to use
• The active ingredient in HL 7 Shampoo is Maldison 1% (Malathion)

HL 7 SHAMPOO QUICK DIRECTIONS:

1. DO NOT WET HAIR FIRST. Pre-mix 10-20mL of HL 7 Shampoo (depending on hair length) with an equal amount of warm water.
2. Apply the mixture to DRY HAIR, covering the entire scalp, back of the neck and behind the ears. Massage into scalp for 5 minutes creating a thick lather. Leave on hair for 20 minutes. Rinse hair with warm water.
3. Apply a head lice conditioner, such as HL 7 Conditioner. Use a metal fine tooth comb, such as HL 7 Lice Comb to remove lice and their eggs (nits). 
4. Rinse hair with warm water.  Towel dry hair.
5. Repeat the above treatment after 7 days to kill lice hatched from any surviving eggs.

 

1. DO NOT treat hair under shower or in the bath. Do it over basin or sink.
2. DO NOT WET HAIR FIRST. (This is because lice have the ability to shut down their breathing holes for around 30 minutes after contact with water). If you have accidentally wet hair first, dry the hair, then wait 30 minutes before starting again.
3. Pre-mix 10-20mL of HL 7 Shampoo (depending on length of hair) with an equal quantity of warm water together in a container (water at room temperature is best). If using medicine measures sterilise them after use. For people with sensitive skin use 10-20mL of HL 7 Shampoo with 15-30mL of HL 7 Natural Conditioner instead of water. For short hair use 20mL of HL 7 Shampoo and pre-mix as above, or for long hair use 20mL of HL 7 Shampoo and 20mL of water.
4. Slowly pour the HL 7 Shampoo pre-mixed solution onto DRY HAIR starting at the top of the head. If required you can add a small amount of extra water to help spread the shampoo through the hair.
5. Massage well into hair close to the scalp, around the entire hairline, especially around the neck and the ears, then through the rest of the hair. Leave in hair for 20 minutes.
6. Rinse hair out with slightly warm water. Keep eyes and mouth closed whilst rinsing. To avoid rinse water running onto face, make sure water flows away from the face. If rinsing with head tilted back, you may try using a dry towel around the neck, below the hairline and one over the face.
7. Towel dry hair till slightly damp, but not completely dry. Artificial heat (hair dryer) should not be used after using HL 7 treatments, as it may destroy some of the active ingredients.

We now recommend the use of HL 7 Natural Conditioner with the HL 7 Lice Comb.

Why does HL 7 Shampoo have to be applied to DRY hair?

• Maldison vapourises when mixed with water and is breathed in by lice. This paralyses the central nervous system of head lice and nits. They don’t stand a chance of survival. It is important to apply the shampoo treatment to DRY hair as head lice shut their breathing holes once they get wet and can keep these shut for 30 minutes. 

If my child has lice must the whole family use HL 7 Shampoo?

• No – only use HL 7 Shampoo when lice are visible.
• Do not use HL 7 Shampoo as a preventative.
• HL 7 Shampoo should not be used on pregnant women or babies under 6 months old
• HL 7 Natural Conditioner can be used instead as a natural preventative. The 12 essential oils in the HL 7 Natural Conditioner create a discouraging environment for lice.

Can I use HL 7 Shampoo more often than every 7 days?

• v This is not recommended.
• v It is not necessary to use HL7 Shampoo more often as Maldison also has a residual effect that enables it to be present in the hair shaft in quantities still lethal to head lice for up to 7 days after treatment.
• v HL 7 Shampoo may cause skin (scalp) irritation if over used 

Can I use HL 7 Shampoo if I’m pregnant?

• This is not recommended.
• We recommend using HL 7 Natural Conditioner and the HL 7 Lice Comb to remove lice and nits and to help prevent a re-infestation.

My hair is brittle and dry after using HL 7 Shampoo.  What should I use?

• We recommend HL 7 Natural Conditioner after using HL 7 Shampoo. 
• HL 7 Natural Conditioner revitalises the hair.  
• It has special wheat protein amino acids, including cystine, as well as moisturises which will restore damaged hair and leave it feeling beautifully soft. 
• HL 7 Natural Conditioner also helps moisturise and condition the scalp and reduces itching due to dry skin on the scalp

Excellent Treatment for School Children

I used this a few years back on my friend’s daughter, she had long thick curly hair and Mum had tried everything. After the first shampoo, there were no visible lice, combed out the eggs, repeated 7 days later and she was free of lice and all eggs.
